United Arab Emirates capital will soon become the proud home of the world’s biggest independent solar power plant reported to be worth 11.75 billion dirhams.
The solar plant which is set to be constructed in Suweihan, Abu Dhabi was presented during a ceremony which took place this May under the patronage of UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and aligned to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince as well as UAE’s Armed Forces Deputy Supreme Commander.
The agreement to construct and operate the 1,177-megawatt power plant was made between Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority or ADWEA and the group of Marubeni Corp. from Japan, a company committed to social and economic development and protecting the global environment and JinkoSolar Holding of China, a global leader in the solar industry
Abu Dhabi Executive Council deputy chairman His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan was quoted saying that is expected that the solar photovoltaic (PV) plant will position the capital city as a global hub for best environmental, economic and technological practices.
He stated further that this renewable energy development is a step closer to the reality of the vision His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to present availability of cost-effective energy alternatives as well as to diversify the country’s economy from oil.
