Shipping terminal operator DP World has begun development of the biggest solar rooftop distribution project in the Middle East with 88,000 roof solar panel boards installed on its facilities in Dubai.

The company has designated Phanes Group’s solar rooftop specialist Green Energy Tomorrow, to bring the sun powered boards on its stockrooms, building office and parking in the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) and Mina Rashid Port.

The plan will have major ecological advantages and is included in DP World’s dedication to being a world pioneer in sustainability.

When Phase 1 is finished in 2017, the venture will give enough clean energy to 3,000 homes per year, said an announcement from DP world.

It will bring about 22,000 tons of carbon being spared yearly, equal to taking 4,500 autos off the street. The solar panel boards will give 40 percent of the overall energy utilization of Jafza, one of the world’s biggest free trade zones.

The chairman and CEO of DP World Group, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, stated: “This point of interest initiative will have major ecological advantages, and we are satisfied to add to Dubai’s Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 and in addition the UAE vision 2021 for an economical environment.”

After Phase 1 of the venture is finished in 2017 (overall 22 Megawatts at peak), Phases 2 and 3 will take after, with further solar installations due in Mina Rashid and Jafza, said the international delivery terminal operator.

Moreover, the organization expects to bring issues to light of renewable energy as well as energy efficiency amongst partners through this venture. Aside from its ecological advantages, the venture has positive business suggestions for DP World and its subsidiary Jafza.
