The Dubai Water Canal project is making progress accordingly and is set to be completed in mid-2016.
The 3 kilometer long waterway will start from the Business Bay and will go down the sea in Jumeirah. The canal will run across the Sheikh Zayed Road, reaching Al Safa Park up to Al Wasl and Jumeirah roads.
The Dh2 billion canal project has earned the people’s interest during Dubai Government Achievements Exhibition (DGAE). A 3D presentation of the project was shown during the exhibition. According to the presentation, it will be surrounded by shops, hotels and restaurants to be enjoyed by residents and tourists.
According to the Roads and Transport Authority, the largest part of the Phase 1 of the project which entails the construction of an eight-lane bridge on Shaikh Zayed Road has been completed while 25 per cent of the second phase which involves the bridges on Al Wasl and Jumeirahwas already completed.
Furthermore, the progress of the third phase which is referring to the canal which will link the Business Bay Canal with the Arabian Gulf just reached 15 per cent. It also involves constructing three pedestrian bridges linking the two sides of the canal. The package also involves the construction of four marine transit stations and filling works to put up an artificial peninsula down the Jumeirah Park.
The canal is expected protect and improve the environment as it will increase the water circulation in Dubai Creek, reducing the pollution in the Creek and it will be connected to the canal and will run towards the sea.
