Public transportation in the United Arab Emirates is now implementing its smart city initiatives in preparation to economy and tourism boost brought by the incoming Expo 2020 as taxis in the country is on its hype for innovative services.
Capital city’s taxis will soon accept payments via smartphone and credit card. Set to implement before the end of this year, TransAD will conduct series of trial before executing it all over Abu Dhabi.
Meanwhile, Dubai Taxis will be equipped with wireless fidelity internet connection for free passenger use, also before the end of this year.
Passengers will be able to link their tablets, smartphones, or laptops and browse the net as soon as they sit in the taxi. Free wifi-service is already accessible in 155 Hala Taxi units across Dubai.
These innovative services come to contribute to achieving the government’s goal to be a full-fledged smart city in line for Dubai Expo 2020, where the plan is to link the city’s infrastructure to the internet and make it within easy reach to the public through smartphones and other smart gadgets.
