Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque placed second on the list of top 25 tourist attractions in the world surveyed by the world’s largest travel website.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque construction involved 38 separate contractors and required thousands of laborers before it was finished and opened for worship in 2007.
According to the report, the Grand Mosque was overtaken in the list by Peru’s Machu Picchu and outshined the other candidates like the St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, Italy and the Taj Mahal of India.
The travel website praised the architectural design, the lush green gardens and its white marble for being well maintained and eye-catching. Taj Mahal and St Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City were not left behind as they were also highly-ranked.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre was also ranked above the Gettysburg National Military Park, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania,USA; the Great Cathedral and Mosque, Cordoba, Spain; and Bayon Temple, Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The volunteer travelers and representatives of the said travel website made their effort to classify some of the best attractions around the globe and these esteemed landmarks and parks are the best starting point for discovering the world’s must-see sights.
