From a total cost of 553 million dirham, a major project which entails the construction of sixteen new underground car parks will reduce congestion in Tangier.
Tangier is embarking on increasing the vehicle parking capacity in its major urban areas. Aside from the construction of 16 new parking garages, it also goes along with other major projects carried out under the program Tangier mega-metropolis. The project is located at the cornice, Mohammed VI Avenue, and is going well according to the schedule set by the initiators of this project.
In addition, these car parks will be integrated with a system of surveillance cameras. The project is being developed as part of a public-private partnership which is expected to meet the parking requirement, to decongest the traffic, update, improve and secure parking supply in the main streets of Tangier. The construction is expected to be completed in late 2016. These sixteen new parking will be commissioned as a way of delegated management.
It should be noted that this project improves the capacity of the ledge with the installation of a dozen underground parking on site and commissioning of 1,400 seats. The other four underground car parks will be spread over the main arteries of downtown which will accommodate a number of 410 vehicles. With a capacity of 130 seats, another underground car park will be built at the administrative district, which is one of the most dynamic urban areas and busy town.
The remaining two units will be built in the basement of the famous Grand Socco and that of Kuwait (Iberia), with 452 and 250 spaces respectively. It is also planned as part of improving the supply of parking to provide the city of another capacity of 3,244 additional places, and through the development of public places and parking areas.
