The Free Zone in Tangier was hailed the best free zone in Africa according to a bi-monthly news and foreign direct investment publication.
Over 80 free zones were evaluated according to international standards. This ranking is based on their competitiveness to cater to the international investors’ needs.
The said free zones are considered as best at rendering good services for investors and improving their offering by means of reinvestments, expansions or upgrades.
According to the publication, Tangier free zone is the overall winner among others in the region of Africa alongside Santiago’s free zone located in Latin America and Caribbean, UAE’s DMCC Free Zone, Philippines’ very own Subic Bay Freeport Zone, and Katowice Special Economic Zone in Poland.
Furthermore, the small and medium enterprises (SME) tenancy rates in the Tangier free zone augmented by 36.4% from 2013 to 2014 which created 12,000 jobs in the zone. The revenue from the export activity in the US, Europe and African markets increased from €2.6 billion to €4 billion.
The zone was also acknowledged for its skills and training. The supply of expert laborers in the zone is ensured through the opening of two new training centers which concentrates on automotive and offshoring industries.
