The port of Tanger- Med keeps on challenging itself for superiority as it emerged as the fifth top performer among other Mediterranean port.
The result was derived from the recent survey released by a well-known British magazine.
According to the recent annual report, Tanger-Med found itself in the 46th spot worldwide and, this is due to the fact that the port did a good operation in 2014 by the mega-port complex. The Tanger-Med Authority stated that the port overtook the port of Gioia Tauro in Italy and the port of Malta
Note that this new ranking is due to the Tanger-Med port complex, it helps the port to level up and be included to the “Top 50 world.” Tanger-Med got the ninth place between 2013 and 2014 and highlighted Morocco’s position as a hub in the marine and maritime trade.
According to the source, the new performance posted by Tanger-Med is just a new benchmark and challenge for further improvement. And with the debut of the new Tanger-Med II port, to increase the overall capability of the mega-complex port to roughly 8.5 million containers in year 2016.
In 2014, since the start of its operation seven years ago, the Tanger-Med port had worked to reach 3.08 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit), exceeding its supposed capacity due to the performance of all operators and the strong participation of the ship owners.
