An environmental and waste management company will set up solar-powered Wi-Fi bins across prominent locations in Sharjah. The said project will render the emirate of Sharjah to become one of the first cities to introduce the Wi-Fi bins in the Middle East.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding between the emirate and the project developer, the bins are ready to be installed in the first quarter of 2016. The bins are designed and manufactured by an American company and the Sharjah based waste management company will keep an eye on the operation and management of the bins.
Aside from being a Wi-Fi hotspot, the bins will be outfitted with sensors to identify the amount of collected waste. Furthermore, the solar panels that are integrated with the bins will generate the on-board compactor, which allows the bins to hold more waste than before being emptied. The company’s trash collection division will carry out the waste collection.
The upcoming solar bins will match the waste collector’s Smart Eco-fleet which was recently launched featuring combined vehicular green technology and smart functionality.
