Abu Dhabi’s first Solar-powered car built by the Petroleum Institute students is currently displayed in Yas Mall for public viewing.
The country’s very own solar car came from a project launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces who was inspired by a solar car displayed when he attended the World Future Energy Summit in 2013.
The solar car was also exhibited during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, at the Abu Dhabi Solar Challenge which was held this year and is the first such event held in the Middle East. The representative of the UAE took the second spot by running more than 13 hours against international competitors from all around the world.
Abu Dhabi’s solar car has also received awards for its success, it ended up on the first spot during the Shell Innovation Awards.
