Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid visits Upcoming Dubai Parks and Resorts Project

His Highness, Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, last Saturday, inspected Dubai Parks and Resorts project valued at Dh10bn (US$2.9 billion), looking at the overall plan and designs of the park which is already in its final stages.

The 25 million sq ft entertainment resort property by state-owned Meraas Holding, located at Sheikh Zayed Road and Palm Jebel Ali is Middle East’s largest integrated theme park destination offering a Hollywood-inspired theme. The Dubai Parks and Resort Project, which started February last year, will be offering state of the art facilities, hoping to attract families and tourists from around the world. The park will be hiring 5,000 employees.

Abdulla Al Habbai, Chairman of Dubai Parks and Resorts said the project, which is already 88% complete, is scheduled to open on October 2016. Rides which are coming all the way from Europe have started arriving with about 800 workers building the five main components of the park namely Motiongate, Bollywood Park, Legoland, Lapita Hotel and Riverland.

The Motiongate complex, artfully described as “Hollywood in the dessert” will consist of 5 themed zones: Dreamworks, Lionsgate, Studio Central,Sony Pictures Studio and Smurfs Village. On the other hand, the Bollywood Park will be like “mini India in Dubai” while Legoland will feature 15,000 Lego models as well as a Lego hotel. An artificial river will be strategically put in connecting the parks as well as dining area.

Considering all the financials are in place, the company expects a revenue of Dh2.4 billion in its first year of operation. This covers ticket and merchandise sales as well as sales on food and beverage sales.

Reports also state that an access road connecting the Dubai Parks and Resorts to Sheikh Zayed road is also being planned to give better commuting convenience to the public. The contract, with a budget of Dh200 million will be awarded come June of 2016.

Also seen during Sheikh Mohammed’s visit were Dubai’s senior officials like Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Al Hashimi, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shebani, Hussain Nasser Lootah, Mattar Al Tayer and Hilal Saeed Al Marri.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was pleased with the project along with other tourism efforts in connection with the upcoming Dubai Expo 2020.
