Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid on Monday attended the groundbreaking on the world’s tallest tower – a structure that will define Expo 2020 much like how the Eiffel Tower defined Paris for its 1889 World Fair.
“The new tower established another challenge in the human architecture history – a race the UAE should lead,” said Sheik Mohammed, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, after a service at the site of the Tower at Dubai Creek Harbor.
“We take a stab at new accomplishments. Another heart for our city and an international landmark. Mankind has no limit however our creative imagination.”
The Tower is presented as the centerpiece of Dubai Creek Harbor, a business and social district being created by Emaar Properties.
It will have hotel lodging, balconies that are rotating and observation decks, with vibrant lighting.
The modern and innovative design handpicked by Sheik Mohammed himslef, was by Santiago Calatrava Valls, a Spanish-Swiss designer whose works comprise the World Trade Center Transport Hub in New York, the Calgary Peace Bridge and the Turning Torso Tower in Denmark.
The Tower’s model plan is inspired by the lily and suggests the picture of a minaret. Its observation decks were displayed on a lengthened, oval-molded bud, with whatever remains of the structure its slim stem.
The Tower will be connected to the ground with solid cables that reproduce the sensitive ribbing of lily leaves tying down the bud safely to the ground.
The outline incorporates a Pinnacle Room with city views, and VIP Observation Garden Decks reproducing the quality of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Also present at the event were Sheik Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai; Sheik Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; Mohammed Al Gergawi, Chairman of Dubai Holding and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Future, and Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman of Emaar Properties.
The six-square-kilometer development of Dubai Creek Harbor advancement is close to Ras Al Khor National Wildlife Sanctuary and a 10-minute drive from Dubai International Airport.
Emaar stated that at the point when finished it will be double the size of Downtown Dubai.
