According to a market and project intelligence website, about 188 active major projects worth 60 Billion Dirhams are in progress in Sharjah, UAE. By the end of 2014, Dh 11 Billion pipeline contract will be awarded in the Emirate.
Meed Projects Director said that Emirate of Sharjah is just starting to capitalize on its previous investments including Hamriyah Free Zone and Khorfakkan.
“Based on economic growth and growth in the population of the UAE as a whole, this emphasis on the processing of recyclable materials and manufacturing, positions Sharjah well to grow in tandem with the UAE”, he stated on a consultancy report.
The Dh60 Billion project contracts are consists of power and water, industrial, transport, infrastructure, construction, public works and environment works.
Projects under water and power sector include power generation, distribution, reservoirs and pumping stations worth Dh 3 Billion.
Notably, the 350 Dana Gas for the Zora gas field and some real estate projects of private sector worth Dh 740 million has been awarded during the 1st quarter of this year.
By 2018, about Dh22 billion costs of major projects will be conferred of which 50% of these contracts are from construction sector, 1/3 for transport infrastructure and the others are for waste management, recycling and waste-to-energy projects.
