His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, the UAE’s Minister of Finance, and Chairman of Dubai Municipality has approved the second phase of the Jebel Ali Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) project.

The project which costs a total of $775.6 million or AED2.8 billion for its construction has allocated $354 million or AED1.3 billion budget for the accomplishment of the second phase. According to the Director-General of the Dubai Municipality, the plant has been planned to attend to the water needs of nearly 1.35 million people.

Furthermore, Jebel Ali STP is installed with innovative instruments in the field of sewage treatment which is expected to increase its production capacity from the current 300,000 cubic meters up to 675,000 cubic meters per day. The plant is ecologically harmless and does not contaminate the surrounding area. It can proficiently eliminate phosphate from water, and utilizes eco-friendly procedures to create fertilizers.

It is said the plant will see more improvements and development until 2025.
