The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has started work for the construction of the cycle paths in numerous residential zones in Dubai.
According to RTA, the project will bring in the launch of cycle lanes in the following Al Mizhar; Mirdif; Al Warqa’a; Al Sufouh; Umm Suqeim; Jumeirah and Al Barsha. They are also considering the introduction of other cycle lanes across the Emirate.
RTA also revealed that other communities that are being considered for future cycle lanes enclose those in the Bur Dubai vicinity including the Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan, Green Community Village and Dubai Investment Park.
Cycle parking frames have been applied at most metro stations, with the RTA maintaining to work to put in to the cycle infrastructure in the upcoming years.
In 2012, this project which is part of Bicycle Master Plan has been revealed. This intends to structure and preserve 900km of cycle lanes in the city by 2020.
Above 70% of this project has been done but there completion date has not yet been divulged.
