These projects intended at developing Al Awir Road and entrances to International City, were supported by the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors of RTA, Mattar Al Tayer stated that this project is commenced in partnership with the main developer of the International City, Nakheel Company.

Presently there is a sole main access shared by residents of the International City and visitors of the Dragon Mart, which frequently effects in blockages in the morning and evening peak times.

In the past years, RTA presented an extra signalized entry/exit point at Al Manama Road that has alleviated the traffic stream at the Main Entrance off Al Awir Road.

The project comprises enhancing Al Awir Road in a sector expanding from the junction of Skeikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road to the roundabout of International City.

A two-lane flyover will be structured at the junction of Nouakchott and Al Awir Roads to guarantee free traffic progress.

It will also give a turning point for motorists travelling from Al Awir Road going to Skeikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road.

A service road will also be structured in both courses to make sure smooth movement.

The project works include the construction of a pedestrian and cycling bridge to lessen the mobility between Al Warqa’a & the International City, and give access to the Business District such as the Dragon Mart and the Fruits & Vegetables Market.

In addition, the project includes broadening of Nouakchott Road in both courses from one to two lanes, as well as the changes of intersections next to Nouakchott Road. A signalized intersection would be included to give an ideal access to the International City, besides changing the present Treatment Plant rounabout into an intersection as well as to give a turn to the Treatment Plant.
