The plan for the construction of the new facility is divulged by the Director-general and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA. It will be located at Al Barsha to provide advanced traffic control systems and accommodate the growing roads network.

The plan also entails the intensification of cameras and smart technology utilization which uses telecommunication systems, solar power panes, and remote sensors for checking traffic condition, particularly at development sites for roads, bridges and tunnels, and crowded areas where footage of current traffic condition is instantaneously transferred to traffic control centers.

It is said that the system gauges the size of traffic congestion on main roads and highways, distinguishes irregular traffic patterns like accidents and vehicle failure on roads, and shows the overcrowding caused by excessive traffic volumes. Furthermore, the system also calculates the time covered for the trip after evaluating the information captured by on-site devices.

Virtual messaging signs (VMS) will be used in order to advise road users regarding the current traffic movement specifically during emergencies, or when construction work on roads is in progress. The LED lights of the signs will be installed and work using solar energy resulting in low power consumption rates.
