One thousand new security cameras will be set up on Dubai Metro stations on the next two years, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Now, more than 4,000 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are set up across trains and stations on the Dubai Metro for safety measures and protection reasons.
Most of actions, movements, and travel manners is caught on screen, be it a normal travel, a child getting lost or a thief at work. Despite most of the surface on a Metro station is covered, there are blind spots, or areas that do not make it to the angle of the camera.
According to the Director of Rail Operations Department, they presumed that a lot of areas are inappropriately screened and these places mostly include the Metro stations. Security on the Metro network is screened in collaboration with the Dubai Police, which just pointed out the necessity of more cameras on Metro stations. A thousand additional cameras should improve the coverage of the security camera. This is a part of a broad security and protection development system.
It is not clear which stations will be renovated with these surveillance cameras as the quantity needed varies each station design.
