The first integrated research hub for solar energy in Africa is now ready for operation. The facility called “Green Energy Park”, was almost finished along with the Noor I. With the combined efforts of the Solar Research Institute and New Energies (IRESEN) and OCP Group, the construction of the facility speaks volumes about its potentials in the world.
Green Energy Park is the first-ever platform for testing, research and training in the field of solar in Africa. Located at Ben Guerir, 70 kilometers away from Marrakech, this imposing infrastructure spans at 8 hectares. It also covers all the research value chain and development in the field of solar by incorporating 3,100 square meters of advanced research laboratories in the field of photovoltaic and CSP in addition the facilities for testing and prototyping and pilot projects to full-scale projects of interest to many businesses and industries.
The launching of the Green Energy Park is said to be practical as Morocco is experiencing the dynamics of support for the development of large solar power, thermal and photovoltaic plants.
Certainly, with the realization of the Green Energy Park, well before its formal opening, the IRESEN is preparing to launch two new projects. This is the “Green Building Park”, committed to energy efficiency in terms of construction and integration of smart grids, which is also to be located at Ben Guerir and “Water-Energy Nexus” which will be developed at Laayoune.
For its realization, a budget of 220 million dirhams has been invested where 60 million dirhams came from the IRESEN and the other 60 million dirhams came from OCP. The rest comes from foreign investments.
