Morocco’s national railway operator Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF) introduces 4.8 billion dirhams project to upgrade the Settat -Marrakesh line and urban redevelopment of railway station site of Marrakech.
Commenced by King Mohammed VI, project sites that are part of the program contract (2010 -2015) were signed between the State and the National railways.
Projects involved. doubling of the entire existing rail line on the Settat -Marrakech (140 km) line , the construction of the platform and two viaducts with a length of 350 m, the installation of equipment (track and catenary ) the elimination of all grade crossings and their replacement by structures (60 items) and the strengthening of electrical sub- stations, for an investment cost amounts to 1.8 billion dirhams .
Other works include urban redevelopment of railway station of Marrakech. Extending a tax base of 39 hectares and is spread over a total area covered of 465,000 meter square , the project involves the construction of a new multi-functional and multi urban center , including residential, commercial , hotels, offices and parks.
Structured into 5 phases, these projects will be delivered progressively between 2017 and 2022.
