As tourism declines in some Muslim countries, Morocco has been making the most of its status as a safer destination in North Africa.
According to a report, more than 10.5 million tourists visited Morocco last year which is a 7 % increase from 2012.
Last week Morocco’s tourism minister proudly said that airlines and tour companies see the country as “a secure destination.” He said that the Kingdom is currently coordinating with British Airways, Lufthansa, Ryanair, EasyJet, Transavia and Air Berlin about organizing routes. He added that by 2015, direct flights to and from China will be available.
However, despite the increased numbers, tourists are spending less in Morocco, because of the turtle-walk economy in Europe.
Still, Morocco is a much better safer than its neighboring countries and is taking advantage of the situation receiving more number of tourists.
“Morocco stands out as an exception”, says on a report released this January by World Bank pertaining to social upheaval and anemic growth of some Muslim countries.
Report also highlighted that Morocco’s tourism sector contributed 11% additional to the country’s GDP.
