in the opening of Tadla Azilal region and its socio-economic development.

The first phase of the sovereign’s endeavor in upgrading the Tadla Azilal road networks and the inauguration of The Khouribga-Beni Mellal highway were given emphasis during the event.

Funded with a total of 770 million dirham, the first phase constitutes the fortification of 18 kilometer roads, dividing highways over 21 kilometer and the expansion of a 219 kilometer road, as well as the construction of a 22 kilometer highway. The upgrading program aims to connect the region’s big cities with the Berrechid-Beni Mellal highway which will improve the traffic, minimizing cost and time of travel, and encourage economic and attract tourist activities in the region.

The Khouribga-Beni Mellal highway is the result of the joint effort of the European Investment Bank (EIB), the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Moroccan Motorway Company, and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.

The Khouribga-Beni Mellal highway is an essential part of a comprehensive project for constructing the 172 kilometer Berrechid-Beni Mellal highway launched five years ago. The highway provides easy access to the major economic hubs and links it to a contemporary infrastructure that provides quality services and security. It will also take part in hasting the development of all concerned regions particularly the High Atlas mountains in Azilal, Tadla plain and even the Middle Atlas in Khénifra.
