The research and development initiative of Masdar and Masdar Institute of Science and Technology can be sped up as they launched an in-house research facility to support Abu Dhabi’s objectives for solar energy development.
The said facility is not only dedicated for the development and use of solar energy but also for the exhibition of photovoltaic, solar thermal and thermal energy storage technologies.
Before, Masdar has put up facilities where the rays from the sun are mirrored at a tower in which the energy is collected.
According to the executive director of institute initiatives at Masdar, for the past years, developments in Photovoltaic technologies has trimmed down the price of solar energy. This has led Masdar to plan for a P V test field which is expected to be launched by end of 2015 after the works for the upgrade are all done.
Conversely, other relevant function of the Solar Hub is to encourage businesses to utilize the facility and develop their own technologies for the region. The Solar Hub is not only a channel for solar energy development in Abu Dhabi and across the region, but it is also considered as a training ground for human resources in the energy sector.
The facility will also offer certification of solar technologies and systems as well as consulting and information services, which will make way for a feasible and extensive realization of solar energy solutions across Abu Dhabi.
