In order to prevent sewage leak and floods, Dubai Municipality plans to increase the capacity of the Jebel Ali sewage treatment plant.
According to the Director of the Drainage and Irrigation Department at Dubai Municipality, the projects entail the expansion of the Jebel Ali sewage treatment plant and a new sewage system that will redirect the waste water from Discovery Gardens and Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) to Jebel Ali.
Currently, a total of 60,000 cubic meters of sewage is produced daily in the Discovery Gardens and JLT. The present capacity of Jebel Ali plant is up to 300,000 cubic meters of sewage. The project will increase the capacity with an additional of 375,000 cubic meters, allowing it to treat a total of 675,000 cubic meters of sewage.
This said project waits the end of 2015 to kick off. The first phase of the expansion of the plant requires more or less around 14 months completing whereas the second phase will cover the residual time until the projected closing date.
The plan and preparation procedures have been accomplished; and the presentation of project to the contractors will happen soon. The new sewage system project will be implemented at the beginning of 2016.
Both projects will cover roughly two and a half years time to be completed.
