An Italian renewables developer Enel Green Power SpA is preparing to develop business in Morocco.
Francesco Venturini , CEO of Enel Green Power stated that Morocco has been a renewable energy pioneer in North Africa, starting challenging objectives and endorsing an established and clear regulatory structure for the enlargement of renewables. A local headquarters has been set up and at the moment they are aspiring to cultivate by installing megawatts and giving to the accomplishment of the nation’s motivated and determined energy objectives.
Morocco is one of the North African nation that Enel Green Power is aiming for its potential expansion, as underlined in the firm’s 2015-2019 tactical plan. The Italians set off a representative office in Casablanca in May 2015 to boost local activities.
The development plan of Enel Green Power for Morocco contains involvement in renewable energy public tenders managed by public utilities including the national electricity and water utility company ONEE and the Moroccan agency for solar energy MASEN, plus the development of renewable energy projects as an independent power producer, corresponding to Morocco’s 13-09 Law on Renewables.
The 850 MW project, which is approximated to cost EUR 1 billion (USD 1.1 bn), corresponds to a important contribution to the national wind power programme for 2000 MW by 2020.
Renewable energy presently makes up about 2.6 GW or 34% of Morocco’s 7.6 GW of total installed capacity. The African nation requires to source 42% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2020 and has assumed an integrated programme to augment its wind and solar power capacities to 2 GW each by 2020.
