New ideas for the development of integrated projects dedicated for the southern provinces of Morocco and the construction of a new railway to connect Morocco to Africa were divulged during the 40th Anniversary of the Green March in the city of Laayoune.
The King announced the implementation of the Development Model for the Southern Provinces which aims to integrate the provinces into the unified motherland and to improve the impact of the Sahara region as an economic center and a vital relationship between Morocco and its African ancestry.
As per the new infrastructures in the region, it was understood that Morocco needs feasible ways of transportation both by air and rail. The railway link from Tangier to Lagouira was announced and it is expected to connect Morocco with the other parts of Africa.
Furthermore, a new port which will be constructed at the Saharan city of Dakhla, as well as a project for solar and fuel energy production.
A number of projects for the utilization and advancement of local resources and products will be implemented, including the major seawater desalination plant in Dakhla and the construction of industrial zones and facilities in Laayoune, El Marsa and Boujdour.
