A travel guide publishing company has ranked the 500 best hidden riches and places to visit on earth for 2015 where Fez’s ancient medina was featured as 11th best place in the world.
Because of its old-fashioned and scenic narrow streets, the Fez Medina has made it to the top 20 tourist destinations in the definitive guide to the world’s top tourism attractions.
Fez Medina was founded and built in 9th century and is characterized for its narrow alleyways where cars are not appropriate to pass through surrounded by tiny boutiques selling a range of handicrafts from clothes and ornaments to furniture and food.
Travelling along the streets of the old medina, mosques, madrasas or old traditional schools, shops, riads, leather tanners, and many more things will attract the visitors.
According to UNESCO world heritage, Fez is a haven to many cultural and historical spots including the oldest university in the world, Al Qaraouine University, which was founded by Fatima Al Fihri in AD 859
According to the list, Cambodia’s Temples of Angkor got the top spot as it is considered as the “Hindu heaven on earth”.
