Companies were invited by Etihad Airways to bid for the design and build contract of its new cargo terminal which will be located within the east midfield development of Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Contractors were requested to bid by February 15 and the completion of the design scope for the project is underway. The airline has carried out studies and has stated that the terminal covers a floor area of more than 400,000 square meters and operations are scheduled by 2017.
Due to future expansion schemes, the new terminal will be able to cater to the growth of operation and will allow Etihad Airways to accommodate 2.5 million tonnes by year 2025.
In reference of the government’s Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, Abu Dhabi Airports Company’s expansion of the main passenger airport is expected to boost the capacity from 12 million to 32 million passengers a year. The said project has a number of elements including the major Midfield Terminal Complex, which is currently under construction in the middle of the two existing runways at the airport.
