A number of stations in the form of a six meter tall palm tree have arrived in parks, beaches and other locations to provide free access for wireless internet, fast mobile phone charging sand screens displaying information on Dubai’s attractions.
The project was brought about by the combined efforts of Dubai Municipality, Du, Sun Tab Solar Energy, Promo Tech Gulf Industry and Smart Palm creators D Idea Media.
In accordance to UAE’s initiative to make 2015 the Year of Innovation, each Smart Palm is powered by solar energy and can provide serve up to 50 users at a time with a high-speed Wi-Fi covering a range of 53 meters. The charging time is also remarkably faster than a regular.
Information which can be viewed in the two screens found on each palms include general Dubai Information, navigation, local news and events, and weather information. A camera is provided for those who want to capture the moment and to take selfies.
Zabeel Park’s sixth gate was the first location where the first Smart Palm stations were installed. According to Dubai Municipality, the Dubai Creek Park, Al Mamzar Park and Al Barsha Pond Park will also have Smart Palm. Fifty more stations are about to be introduced in other parks, and beaches for the years to come.
Ten months from planning stage, the Smart Palm project is now providing free services to the public especially the tourists. On the time it was patented, Smart Palm began its operation working together with its partners who made its overall functionality possible.
