Transportation networks in Dubai will be enlarged extensively in preparation for the Expo 2020 according to Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA).
New metro trains will be added and the number of bus network will be increased to 16 more districts with improvement in 19 other districts as part of the plan. The new trains are required to accommodate the increasing demand for the metro services in addition to helping the extension of the Red Line on Route 2020.
The RTA explained that the future plan envisions additional improvements of the infrastructure and the efficiency of mass transit networks, as well as the provision of wider range of smart services to the public.
On the other hand, the marine transit systems will be improved further with the launch of the Dubai Water Canal which connects the Business Bay with the Arabian Gulf.
The Public Transport Day was held which was participated by public entities, academic institutions and private organizations. A series of events and competitions were featured during the event.
RTA seeks to take the share of public transport in the movement of passengers from 14 per cent in 2014 up to 20 per cent by 2020. Five hundred thirty one million passengers were serviced by Dubai’s public transport system the previous year.
