As a preparation for the Expo 2020, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority together with a local property developer plan for a new rail line which will serve as a link to the site where the event will be held.
The subject of connecting the local property developer’s Discovery Gardens to the Dubai Metro network is in line to part of broader discussions over related to the placement of the new railway connecting to the Dubai Expo 2020 site which is next to Al-Maktoum International airport in the Jebel Ali area.
The said line will start from the Nakheel Harbour and Tower station area on the red line along a utility passage between Discovery Gardens and Jumeirah Islands developments. Other subjects involved in the discussions are the possibility of putting up series of stations serving Discovery Gardens.
Passing Discovery Gardens, the line is expected to traverse Dubai Investments Park (DIP) and the Greens Community and then to the Expo site and Al-Maktoum International airport.
In July, Dubai RTA awarded the contract for the completion of the preface of engineering for the new metro line and the study started in August. It is implied that the new link could be a standalone system which could function using dissimilar rolling stock and systems to the existing lines of the Dubai Metro.
