Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched the part one of its Smart Dubai initiative to power buildings and houses through solar energy.
Under the program, the consumers will be able to generate their own electricity from solar energy to power their villa or building in Dubai and even utilize the excess energy to compensate their monthly bills.
According to the Managing Director and CEO of Dewa, the said program is intended to endorse the significance of sustainability by supporting and convincing the residents to produce clean energy which will be used onsite and connect it to Dewa’s grid. Through this, there will be an offset between exported or imported power and the account is settled based on this.
At this time, 11 applicants of which about half are residential have joined and applied to set up photovoltaic solar panels in their establishments to use solar energy.
The CEO of Dewa added that investing to solar energy is a favorable alternative nowadays as the outlay for the use of technology for the system has dropped down considerably for the past two years.
