On the 15th anniversary of the enthronement of His Majesty King Mohammed VI was the initiation of construction of the Ouakjditt Assif Ntalaght dam on the river located in the town of Ourika, Al Haouz province of Marrakesh-Tensift-El Haouz region.
Expected of having a capacity of 1.22 million cubic meters and funded with 60 million dirham by the Department of the Energy, Mines, Water and Environment, the dam fits into the agenda of protecting the city against flooding caused by the river of Yssil and to contribute to boost the groundwater of the Ourika region.
It is said the dam will somehow minimize the problems or worries of people regarding the substantial damages caused by floods including the collapse of many houses.
Association members never ceased to emphasize the urgent need to find practical solutions to the issues inherent in the development of the city, particularly in terms of risk management and development of the area around Wadi Yssil.
The residents expressed satisfaction about the initiative and took it as a favorable decision to end their suffering. The dam will be operational within two years.
