The construction of the Sweihan 350 MW solar power plant is on track according to the project owner Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA).
The Sweihan plant is expected to generate 7% solar energy from sources by 2020 as per the plan of the emirate. It is also considered the first renewable project of ADWEA.
ADWEA has started the process of selecting the ideal developer of the solar photovoltaic project which is scheduled to be completed in mid-2016. The developer will be chosen by mid-2016, will get the privilege to take a 40% share in the project, and with 60% of the stake is to be held by project owner.
Furthermore, the UAE capital is also witnessing the construction of another power plant, with its first reactor planned for commissioning in 2017. Other current renewable energy projects in Abu Dhabi the solar power development projects from Masdar and ADWEA’s several gas-fired independent water and power projects (IWPPs).
