The southwest ring road in Casablanca was inaugurated by King Mohammed VI on Wednesday. It is a major road infrastructure for development of the Greater Casablanca.
This project, which involved an investment of about 253 million dirham excluding land acquisition, has strong socio-economic and significant impact on improving the conditions of the transportation of people and goods. The said road can help in decongesting the city, while promoting access to three existing motorways which are Casablanca-Marrakech, Casablanca-El Jadida and Casablanca-Rabat, and provide better service to the tourist area of the west coast and new areas of urbanization.
This ring road brings several benefits to road users. The users will be able to save time since it will link the neighborhoods of Ain Diab and Hay Hassani, as well as community of Bouskoura and Dar Bouazza which will have access to the highway without going through the city center.
The realization of this project also supports the important developmental projects for development program of the Greater Casablanca for year 2015 to 2020 launched by the Sovereign. This program highlights the enhancement of mobility in the region, in order to enable people of Casablanca to get to their places of work, education or leisure within a reasonable time.
As part of this program, a comprehensive system of transport and mobility will be established by building urban transport through the extension of tram lines and strengthening of fleet of buses, the development of integrated urban road networks, provincial roads and highways for a smoother traffic flow, and also accomplishing technical works such car parks or tunnels.
