The work of the second line of Casablanca tramway was commenced early this September 2015.
The 15-kilometer second line will stream from Ain Diab to Ain Sebaa railway station through the El Fida and Derb Sultan regions.
This line should cater Hermitage, Mers Sultan, Al Fida, Derb Kabir, Hay Al Amal, Hay Al Farah, Hay Tissir, Hay Jamal, Laayoune, Hay Massira, Hay Mohammadi, Dar Lamane, El Badr El Bassma and Ain Sbaa.
It is also reported that the second line in due course will cater a population approximated at 450,000 dwellers.
Line 1 services, which at first connected to Sidi Moumen in the east with Ain Diab and the Facultés region in the west, will be expanded for 2-kilometers to cater the areas of Laymoun, Florida and Lissasfa.
The venture amount of the second tram line and the expansion of the current line 1 is set at 3.7 billion dirhams.
The project will be finaced by the Casablanca Urban Commune, the Grand-Casablanca district, in addition to financed from France.
The construction of the second line will be operational by the end of 2018. The Casablanca Tramway network is approximated to encompass 110 kilometers by 2022.
