There would be less fear if more people travel, and we’d feel much safer. When fear drives you to stay put, you miss the opportunity to see places, the chance to meet interesting people, taste a local dish and have the experience to be in awe at your new discoveries.
Do not let fear keep you from embracing travel, your access to the world. It just creates an illusion in our mind that hinder us from going place. A well traveled person knows that there is unity in diversity.
“Travelers, the Ambassadors of Peace”, this is the chosen theme of the Moroccan Association of Ibn Battuta for this year’s edition of the International Festival of Ibn Battuta. The festival will not only highlight and continue the legacy of one of the world’s greatest travelers Ibn Battuta but will also promote the culture of traveling as means to promote the value of peace amidst cultural diversities.
Across the globe, regardless of your background, we all share similar needs and dreams. Below are some ways we can practice peace and unity when traveling.
1. Expose yourself
When we travel, we must keep an open mind and learn to expose ourselves to something different. Let us learn to recognize and get the most out of those differences because we are just as different to others as they are to us.
2. Talk to Strangers
Traveling entails not only discovering some place new, it’s the new experiences and the people you meet. So try having small conversations with strangers – ask, smile and engage in small talks.
3. Be Curious
When was the last time you did something for the first time? Curiosity beats fear, it’s the way that leads to having a wider perspective of the world. Do not just always rely on routine, be curious. It will lead you to new opportunities and experiences.
Share your travel experiences – your engagement with other people’s cultures and religions. Let the people see the goodness and beauty of the world through you. You will never be the same once you get back home, you become a better person. Spread the goodness you have experienced so others can also enjoy a better, unified world.
Do not miss the chance to let travel change you for the better.
