The Atlas and valleys in Ouarzazate was chosen best tourist region of Morocco for the year 2014. The election of the region as popular destination is the result of a poll and internet vote launched by the Moroccan Tourist Information site “Tourisma Post” for the period if July 25 to September 1, 2014.
The survey recorded 20,849 votes from 49 countries from Europe, North and South America, Asia, Arab world and Africa in addition to Morocco. Atlas and valleys received 54% of the customers’ votes to be ahead of other parts of Morocco, including the Sahara Souss Atlantic, Mediterranean Morocco, Marrakech Atlantic Centre, North Cape Town, Central Atlantic, Great South Atlantic.
This competition aims to have the opinions of Moroccan and foreign tourists on their favorite destinations for the kingdom. This award is the result of a massive tourism in Ouarzazate from professionals who made outstanding contributions to the promotion of the region both nationally and internationally through a very good communication and enhancement of significant potential of the region.
The destination has recorded the strongest growth at the national level with 24% of night stays and 19% of arrivals. As a reminder, the year 2011 was marked by the establishment of a strategic repositioning and promotion of the destination. The main pillars of this plan have focused on both the organization of familiarization trips and press trips, participation in tourism fairs and exhibitions as well as events.
A multitude of projects related to the construction of thematic museums, development of the film industry, conservation of the architectural heritage that is part of a homogeneous vision of development are now trying to enhance the potential of this destination.
