With an aspiration to develop the next generation of Emirati urban planners, Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) has signed a memorandum of collaboration with New York University Abu Dhabi, Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, American University of Sharjah and Dubai’s Zayed University.
Included in the memorandum are the establishment of student training programmes and internships and the integration of UPC planning manuals into the syllabuses of several degree courses. The council will also provide the four universities with training resources and manuals connected to its regulations and also the Emirate’s Estidama sustainability programme, the manuals for Abu Dhabi Urban Street Design as well as Abu Dhabi Utility Corridors Design
When asked about the agreement, Engineer Abdulla Al Shamsi, executive director for Urban Planning Council’s Strategic Affairs Sector shares that the UPC is dedicated to improving and expanding the range of Emirati talent so that it eventually gives them the opportunity to be able to contribute back in shaping the future and landscape of Abu Dhabi.
The agreement does not only enable the council to select candidates from a wider group of talent, but also shows a great support for the Emiratisation Initiative of Abu Dhabi as part of the Vision 2030.
The memorandum followed a similar agreement with Abu Dhabi University and United Arab Emirates University, which was also intended to enable Emiratisation efforts in the field of urban planning.
Al Shamsi in behalf of Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council looks forward to collaborate with universities across the United Arab Emirates to offer courses and workshops to share knowledge, promote awareness, provide opportunities for the next generation of Emirates. This agreement is a tremendous opportunity to develop a creative workforce of Emiratis that are passionate about Abu Dhabi’s future, well equipped with the right education foundation and holds a deeper understanding of overarching ethos.
