A total budget of over Dh798 million is set to finance these developments in the capital and suburban areas which intend to offer leisure amenities and basic services to UAE’s increasing population.
Children’s playgrounds and recreational facilities are expected to be constructed as well as the upgrade of other existing playgrounds in 56 locations in the capital in accordance with the park layout design provisions of the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council. The municipality is also aiming to add more walkways, bicycle tracks and rest areas to make the capital’s roads safer for pedestrians.
Additionally, upcoming projects will entail rehabilitation works on a number of parks in Abu Dhabi Island to boost green areas. The Al Zafarana Park will be improved by adding protected and sheltered footpaths, special sports and bicycles tracks and others. This will also include the development of play areas measuring 90,000 square meters to accommodate children of various age groups and children with special needs.
Several projects that was already tendered focus on the provision of irrigation tanks and restoration of existing irrigation facilities in areas such as Delma Street, Sultan Bin Zayed Street and Al Khabira area for a budget of Dh25 million.
Other projects that are still in tendering stage also consist of irrigation and landscaping works at Sheikh Zayed Bridge-Abu Dhabi Gate, as well as landscaping works which spans at 800,000 square meters from Al Falah Street up to Sheikh Zayed Bridge.
