A budget of $4.3bn or AED15.8bn has been approved by the Abu Dhabi’s ExecutiveUSD 4.3 Billion Investment for Abu Dhabi Infrastructure is Official Council as investment package for infrastructure and social development projects in the capital city.
Projects included to the package are $1.2bn (AED4.3bn) for a new hospital in Al Ain, $1.44bn (AED5.3bn) for the Al Mafraq- Al Ghuwaifat road upgrade improving the road link in the Western section of the emirate close to the border with Saudi Arabia, $535m (AED2bn) for a new section of road to improve congestion along the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway and $843m (AED3.1bn) to fund housing loans allowing 1,554 citizens to buy or build their own houses.
The new hospital will at Al Ain will have 719 beds and will include areas for surgery, ICU, maternity and children’s’ wards, rehab units and VIP and Royal Suites. The said hospital will provide a level of health and social services that facilities in any developed country have.
On the other hand, the project to upgrade the Al Mafraq-AlGhuwaifat road will be executed in four phases. The council also instructed the Department of Transport to sign off agreements with contractors in order to progress the project, which should cut traffic jams and travel times on the road to Saudi Arabia.
Other projects which were approved by the council include a $220.5m (AED850m) to import, install and modify cables used to link power generation stations and a $35.9m contract to set up a sewage water treatment plant in Al Ruwais to support plans for new Special Economic Zones and employment areas in the Western Region.
