An influx of domestic tourists was recorded in Essaouira in the month of August accounting for almost 40% of arrivals and recorded destination occupancy rate of accommodation in classified establishments from 90 to 100% in some cases. Therefore, tourist arrivals have increased the population of the city by two or more, which benefits the hoteliers, owners of guest houses and restaurants.
According to many professionals, Essaouira is more positioned as a safe destination that prevails in the area if you know how to capitalize and promote the destination intelligently. In the first half of 2014, Essaouira posted an increase of 8% of its business as compared to the same period of 2013, which rose from 211,156 to 228,028 and an increase of 11% of its overnight arrivals. This caused most categories of tourist accommodation in the city to recorded increases in overnight stays of 6% for the 5 star hotels, 6% for the 4 stars, 15% for 2 stars and 9% for guesthouses.
Furthermore, the evolution of overnight stays in the first half of 2014 at the city of Essaouira is mainly due to the increase in overnight stays by major source markets, including the French market which experienced an increase of 4%, the UK market by 13%, the German market jumped by 12%, the Spanish market went up by 18% and the Italian market by 16%.
In this regard, several elements of Essaouira became an attraction for many visitors both domestic and foreign. This is, among other things, its temperate climate of around 25 degrees, the strength and regularity of the winds that are world famous for surfers, its classified heritage, Medina which contains an architectural and urban heritage and its enormous potential for water sports or slides, including sites Sidi Moulay, Bouzerktoun, and Kaouki.
