The government of Sharjah revealed to public their plan to construct an amphitheaterSharjah to Build $32.7 Million Amphitheater in Majaz Island worth of $32.7 million as a part of their Al Majaz Island project. This development project is under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) launched the Al Majaz Island Project.
An open air Roman Style amphitheater will be build an area of will cover an area of 7, 238 square meters, dubbed as the official venue to host the Sharjah Capital of Islamic Culture 2014 Celebrations. It will be able to house up to 4,500 visitors and also have locations for the galleries, conference rooms, restaurants, shops and extensive landscaping. Conference rooms and galleries, as well as a number of shops, restaurants and green areas that will surround the new amphitheatre from all sides along with an outstanding panoramic view of the waterfront.
The amphitheater worth Dh120 million will include numerous terraced seating areas that can accommodate up to 4, 500 visitors, and a huge stage equipped with a state-of-the-art audio system. Reports said that Majaz Island is now poised as an important touristic landmark and an aesthetic point of attraction. This is thanks to its modern facilities which will be constructed according to international architectural standards, in addition to the strategic position it occupies on the banks of Khalid Lagoon which could be a vital entertainment destination in the emirate. The construction on the Al Majaz Island already started and the project is set to complete by next year.
