Dubai Astronomy Group on a news article says that the UAE National Astronomical Observatory and Telescope project has been approved and on its preparation for the bidding process.
Contractors who will be interested must do a feasibility study on the technical requirements on the 1st phase of the project. It has been noted that 3 sites will be build above the mountain with 1,500 meters high.
“The UAE national observatory will be the figure head astronomy facility in the Arabian peninsula. We are hoping that we can nurture collaboration and advice on other observing structures, be it Saudi Arabia, Southern Iraq, or Jordan,” Dubai Astronomy Group added.
The group also explains that UAE is in latitude having an advisable climate making a good access to dark skies for better observing days.
Subsequently, other projects inclined to astronomy curriculum are being. A Space and Astronomy Academy that will offer courses in astronomy looking at a 3-5 year build plan.
