An aggregate of AED19 million or $2.3 million have been allocated to finance six projects in solar thermal energy research and development
under a contract signed last May 19.
The signing ceremony was lead by the Minister of higher education, research and training of cadres, Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment, and the Chief Executive of the Institute for Solar Energy and New Energy or IRESEN together with delegates of different scientific and industrial partners. The signing of the agreements follows the call for projects in InnoTherm 2013 which part of the project support was to finance research and development in the renewable energy sector.
It was noted that the joint venture agenda would be reinforced by the signing of agreements for research and development support and innovation in the field of renewable energy. The ceremony presented an opportunity to show the results of the calls for tender in the area of renewable energies.
The budget will be distributed to six new projects in solar thermal. One of the supporters stated that there were 42 projects and 11 from that will be chosen for the second phase funded with 40 million dirham in year 2014.
At present, IRESEN is offering its financial support for the research and development of more than 200 students taking their PhD and engineers, students and 47 teachers-researchers in the field of renewable energy.
