Launched by the Moroccan government in 2008, Ibhar project, a fishing technology in the“Ibhar Project”, Technology to Intensify Fishing Safety in Morocco Kingdom of Morocco is set for an upgrade to strengthen the safety of the fishermen in the Kingdom.
The $60 million project intends to refresh the fishery industry, optimizing its performance, improving safe navigation and working conditions and life on board, as well as compliance with international quality standards products.
“The ibhar program deals essentially with the security of fishermen. It deals with providing them with ultra-high frequency radios and GPS systems, as well as with sensors to enhance the performances of trawlers,” explained The National Fishing Office said.
The government is on its double effort to improve the working conditions of fishermen as each year countless lives are lost at sea.
Fishermen organized themselves into co-operatives, “calling on authorities to help introduce a new generation of ships to improve fishing trawlers at nearly 170 ports.”
