Two new service stations have been opened for operation in Yas Island under the“Green” ADNOC Service Stations Inaugurated in Yas Island presence of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Nasser Al Suweidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Chairman of ADNOC Distribution, Abdullah Salem Al Dhaheri, Chief Executive Officer, ADNOC Distribution, number of senior officials from ADNOC Distribution and high level representatives.
The two petrol stations located on the main road running through Yas Island are to be said as environment friendly in line with the capital city’s commitment to the environment and sustainability in accordance to Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.
ADNOC “Green stations” are subjected to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification as corroboration to globally recognized standards in the measurement of design, construction and the operation of eco-friendly buildings.
Using a compressed natural gas(CNG) as an alternative fuel in Abu Dhabi, followed by the establishment of maintenance centers to help vehicles run on natural gas are some of ADNOC’s initiative in sustainability that have earned international compliments.
The new stations function on the principle of increased efficiency and reduced energy consumption thus, the facilities are equipped with advanced waste-recycling and waste-disposal technology, and are fitted out with energy-efficient lamps and air conditioners using non-toxic gases that minimally impact the ozone layer. Notably, the building’s illumination is 100% LED lighting both inside and out. Lighting installations at the service station are light-emitting diodes, which last up to 10 years and use 80% less energy than similar lighting systems.
ADNOC Distribution has future plans to open several more green stations across the emirate.
