The tourism capital of UAE is expected to become MENA’s most competitive city by 2025Dubai, The Most Competitive City In Mena Region On 2025 and 2rd globally. This is a report entitled “The Hot Spots 2025: Benchmarking the Future Competitiveness of Cities” published by Economist Intelligence Unit.
The report shows the cities in the Middle East that will be bolstered by their mounting economic strength.
Base on the report, Dubai is projected to outdo towns in Europe and USA that dominates the top ranking such as Brussels, Oslo, Houston, Vancouver, Geneva and Moscow. Other MENA countries followed the rank are Doha on 24th place, Abu Dhabi on 39th place, Muscat on 64th place, Kuwait City on 63rd place and Riyadh on 87th place.
Citi said that the main challenge for cities to compete on a global stage is the urbanization because the planning for a global business starts with a city.
About 65% of MENA’s population will live in 2025 whereas in 2020, Abu Dhabi and Cairo could come forward as the “economic powerhouses of the future” causative of 48% and 77% to the gross domestic product of their regions correspondingly.
It has been noted to United Nations report before that urban population in Arab Countries increased four times from 1970 to 2010 and is estimated to double from 2010 to 2050.
On the other hand, urbanization, geo-socialization, connectivity and convergence, infrastructure and power are the key factors that will boost MENA economies more by 2025, according to a research firm Frost and Sullivan.
