The Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Logistics outlaid approximately DH148 million for the road construction projects in the province of Tata for year 2014 up to 2016.
Funded through a partnership between the Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Logistics, Agency for the Development of Southern Region, the Council of Guelmim-Smara, and the provincial council and the municipalities concerned in Guelmim, this program aims to improve the access of rural population to the road network bringing it from the rate of 51% to 91%.
Several projects are being launched at Guelmim-Smara to open up the area. These projects include the construction and development of a 21 kilometer road at a cost of DH15 million together with the 73 kilometer road under NHRIs program at DH65 million, and the expansion and strengthening of an 80 kilometer road worth DH60 million.
Furthermore, other projects worth DH189 million are underway, including the construction of 18 kilometer road, the construction and development of 74 kilometer of road as part of the National Rural Roads Program (2nd tranche), widening, strengthening of a 32 kilometer highway as part of road maintenance, the construction of two technical installations and the construction of 39 kilometer of road in the program for making territorial plane.
Under the Second National Program for Rural Roads launched in 2009, 149.5 kilometers of road has been made in the province of Guelmim, for a budget of over DH104 million.
