An american world travel magazine recently published its pick for the Top 10 Cities in the Middle East and Africa Regions of which 3 cities from the Kingdom of Morocco occupied the first top 5.
City of Fez placed on 2nd, Marrakech on 3rd position and Essaouira on rank #4 while Egypt completed the Top 5. Cape Town, the South African City topped the list of best cities.
Fez, the oldest Imperial city and also a UNESCO World Heritage site, is Morocco’s third largest city. The city is home to Jami Al-Qarawiyyin (al-Karaouine mosque), founded in AD 859, which is the oldest continuously functioning university in the world.
Marrakech, the historic medieval city, with its famous Jemaa El Fna square (third most beautiful square in the world), the famous Koutoubia mosque and the wonderful Majorelle Gardens is ranked the first African tourist destination.
Since the 16th century, Essaouira, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, also known by its Portuguese name of Mogador, is an outstanding coastal city with a rich culture and history. With its fortified walls, fishing harbor and seagulls soaring and screaming over the town, the city is haven for Gnawa music fans.
